Glycemic Control and Pain Threshold in Alloxan Diabetic Rats

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is associated with several complications including painful diabetic neuropathy. Previous animal and human studies have indicated that nociceptive thresholds are decreased by acute hyperglycemia. Furthermore, it has been suggested that glucose may be an important mediating factor in these painful symptoms. In the present study, pain threshold was assessed via the hot plate and formalin tests in control, untreated diabetic and treated diabetic rats. Hyperglycemia induced by 40mg/kg alloxan significantly lowered the pain threshold as revealed by a decrease in the hot plate latency and increased mean formalin score. In contrast, the hot plate latency was significantly increased and the formalin score significantly reduced in the diabetic rats following normalization of blood glucose level. These results suggest that hyperglycemic states contribute to a decrease in pain threshold in the alloxan diabetic rats.

Protective Effect of Ethanol Extracts of Hericium erinaceus on Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Neuropathic Pain in Rats

We investigated the effects of Hericium erinaceus (HEE) on alloxan induced diabetic neuropathic pain in laboratory rats. Alloxan induced diabetic rats were administered orally HEE. After 6 weeks of treatments, treatment with HEE 40 mg/kg in diabetic animals showed significant increase in pain threshold and paw withdrawal threshold and significant decrease in serum glucose and urine glucose. We ...

Study of the antidiabetic activity of Punica granatum L. fruits aqueous extract on the Alloxan-diabetic Wistar rats

Pancreatic β-cells dysfunction and impairment of insulin action usually leads to hyperglycemia. Punica granatum L. is a well-known traditional herbal remedy in Iran due to its positive effects on ameliorating blood glucose homeostasis. In this study, we aimed to investigate and compare the pomegranate fruits aqueous extract (PE) on glucose and lipid metabolisms in normal and Alloxan-induced dia...

Rat model of food-induced non-obese-type 2 diabetes mellitus: comparative pathophysiology and histopathology.

Based on the hypothesis that consistent hyperglycemia can result in insulin resistance, we explored the induction of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) using diet of high glycemic/low fat index and compared the effects on the physiology and histology of the rats. The rats were divided into 3 groups. DM was induced in the first group by single intraperitoneal injection of 150mg/kg a...

Background & Aim: Diabetes mellitus in long-term through various means such as augmented oxidative stress is associated with disturbances such as pain and cognition in humans and laboratory animals. According to the evidence of anti-diabetic extract of Biarum Bovei (BB), Effect of oral administration of this extract was evaluated on blood glucose level and pain threshold in diabetic rats. Expe...
